A. Speech Language Therapy/Pathology is the
assessment and treatment of speech and language disorders.
Speech disorders refer to problems with the production
of speech sounds. Language disorders refer to problems
with understanding and putting language together.
According to the American Speech-Language-Hearing
Association, a speech disorder can include problems
with any of the following: fluency, articulation,
and voice. A language disorder can include a problem
with any of the following: the form of language (phonology,
morphology, syntax), the content of language (semantics/meaning),
and the function of language (pragmatics/social skills).
A language disorder can also include aphasia and delayed
language development.
