Health Insurance

Functional Kids Clinic accepts several types of insurance as form of payment, but we are “in-network” with the following companies:

  • Aetna
  • Blue Cross / Blue Shield
  • Tricare (accepted for Speech Therapy only)
  • Medicaid
  • United Healthcare
  • Health Partners
  • Medica
  • UCare

In the case that we are not "in network", you may be subject to a higher deductible, copay and/or coinsurance and are responsible for a greater percentage of the total therapy charges.

Benefits for Therapy

Your insurance benefits for therapy services will be checked and reviewed for you in detail before your first visit to the clinic. Please note that benefits which are quoted to you or to our patient account representative are not a guarantee that therapy will be covered. Your child’s diagnosis and treatment plan of care are unique, so never assume the benefits will ensure payment for the services rendered.

Many health insurance plans do provide benefits for Occupational, Physical and Speech therapy, but, frequently there are limitations for this coverage. Limitations may be related to a child’s age, diagnosis, or for the number of therapy sessions a child may receive per year.

We will submit claims to your insurance company on your behalf and upon receiving any denial for therapy, we will appeal, submit documentation, and make every effort to allow for therapy coverage to continue.

Helpful Tips

When speaking with the insurance company, it is imperative that you take written notes, including the name of the representative and the date of your call. This information will be helpful to us with our appeal in any case of denial.

Read over your insurance companies Explanation Of Benefits (EOB) when you receive it in the mail. They will provide you with detailed information on what charges your insurance company paid, what your co-payment/co-insurance was for that session, how much of their payment and yours went towards the deductible, etc. If you have any questions regarding your EOB, we will do our best to help you, and will frequently contact the insurance company on your behalf for any additional concerns.

Please remember that you are ultimately responsible for any services not paid by your insurance company.
