Q. How
do we decide how long to continue occupational therapy?
A. The decision to “graduate”
from O.T. is usually made by the parents and therapist
together. It is based on progress made toward the
referral issues, family skills to maintain progress
and continue it at home, and other services that can
help and support the child and family (ex. school).
While some kids may “catch up” in all
areas of development, many may need to focus on making
some improvements in the underlying functions as well
as learning to manage and compensate for the difficulties.
